The Borders Tourist Board is a group of independent, tourism-related businesses, formed in June 2007. We have two main aims, firstly to offer cost-effective marketing to our members and secondly to promote The Borders as a tourist destination.

Retaining a traditional feel, yet modernised to provide generous accommodation on two floors, there are 4 large bedrooms, sleeping 10, 3.5 bathrooms. 30'drawing room, dining room, both with log fires, kitchen with extending breakfast table, spacious entrance hall and more! Set in spacious grounds with lawns,shrubs, summer house and barbecue, and bounded on one side by the beautiful Kale Water, it has fabulous open views to the surrounding rounded green hills so much a feature of this upland Border valley. Steeped in history this unspoiled settlement of Hownam has an active church and village hall life. Sheep, cattle and ponies graze the fields. The area is renowned for its Roman sites (including Dere Street) and Iron-age forts. Close by are the Pennine Way and St Cuthbert’s Way leading to Holy Island. This is a beautiful peaceful area for those who desire a retreat; quiet or invigorating - you choose! Wonderful hill walking and mountain biking for the more energetic. Fishing and shooting can be arranged. Just chill out in the fabulous garden with a good book, or sit by the log fire and unwind! Well behaved dogs are welcome!
